If you'r talking about the Clairol hair color that you buy at the local drugstore...you're not gonna see good results. Those hair dyes are only menat for someone who wants to 1 to 2 shades lighter or enhance their natural color.

You either need to go to a salon or hit up the beauty supply store. You'll need to buy a bottle of hair color and 30 volume developer in order to get the desired hair color. The 30 volume developer. be sure to follow the directions on the hair color bottle.

You can do this with the professional line of Miss Clairol hair color that is sold at most beauty supply stores, OR you can use L'Oreal Hi-Color which is specifically made for dark hair.

please don't dye it, because it will turn bright orange, guaranteed.

trust me..i tried that once. my hair is natually dark brown too, and i bought the EXACT same box of dye and it turned my hair bright orange. it SUCKED!

so don't do it because it doesn't work on dark hair properly.

you should go see a professional at a salon, because even though it's expensive, it will turn out the way you want it to :)

No. If you wish to lighten your hair you'll have to either put a pre lightener on it on bleach it. Putting lighter colours on hair wont lighten it unfortunately! I believe that when hair is lightened it's actuall stripping the colour of and not putting it on.
